The United States is home to some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. As per global rankings, there are eleven American buildings among the tallest buildings in the world.

One World Trade Center

1. One World Trade Center — Not just the tallest building in The United States, World Trade Center in New York City is the 7th-tallest building in the world. With a height of 541.3 m (1,776 ft) and 94 floors, is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, designed by David Childs, an American architect.

2. Central Park Tower — Attaining a height of 472.4 m (1,550 ft), the Central Park Tower is the tallest residential building in the world. It has 98 above-ground stories and three basement stories. It is the second-tallest building in New York City, and the 15th tallest building in the world.

3. Willis Tower — Formerly known as the Sears Tower, Willis Tower was the tallest building in the world upon completion from 1974 until 1998. It is 110-story which gives the building a height of 1,451-foot (442.3 m). The lower half of the tower was originally occupied by Sears retail company which gave its name Sears Tower. It is one of Chicago’s most popular tourist destinations, more than 1.7 million people visit the observation deck (annually).

4. Steinway Tower — Situated along Billionaire’s Row, the 111 West 57th Street or Steinway Tower is a supertall residential skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. It is the world’s most slender skyscraper with 84-story and standing up to 1,428-foot (435-meter). Do you know that because of the shape of the tower, 111 West 57th Street is nicknamed “Stairway to Heaven”.

5. One Valderbilt — Opened in 2020, One Valderbilt in Midtown Manhattan is the fourth tallest skyscrapper in The United States. Its roof is 1,301 feet (397 m) high and has 93 story structure.

6. 432 Park Avenue — A part of Billionaires’ Row, 432 Park Avenue is a residential skyscraper with 84 numbered stories. It houses some of the most expensive residences in the city. As of 2023, 432 Park Avenue is the sixth-tallest building in the United States and the third-tallest residential building in the world. The highest unit on floor 96 was sold to Saudi businessman Fawaz Alhokair for $88 million in 2016.

7. Trump International Hotel and Tower — With a floor count of 98, this skyscraper condo-hotel in downtown Chicago is the seventh-tallest building in the U.S. It has a height of 423.2 m (1,388 ft).

8. 30 Hudson Yards — This supertall skyscraper in the West Side of Midtown Manhattan is popular for its triangular observation deck, known as The Edge, on the 100th floor. The building is popular for being the headquarters to some of the world’s most reputed companies such as WarnerMedia (Warner Bros.), Discovery, Wells Fargo, Facebook, and CNN Studios.

9. Empire State Building — The poster boy of skyscrapers in the world. Not only was the Empire State Building the tallest building in the world from 1931 until 1972, it was also the first building in the world to have over 100 floors. It is quite interesting to know that its name is derived from “Empire State”, the nickname of the state of New York.

10. Bank of America Tower — The Bank of America Tower is the 10th tallest building in The United States. It is a 55-story skyscraper in the Midtown Manhattan and with a height of 1,200 feet (370 m), the Bank of America Tower is the eighth tallest building in New York City. The building is known for its massive 2.1 million square feet (195,096 m2) of office space.

Since the world’s first skyscraper was built in Chicago in 1885, USA has remained non-stoppable in terms of the skyscrapers.
